Haruna Kawanishi, b. 1979 in Tokyo, experiments with symbolic-laden pluralities of meaning in her photographic and video art work. Since graduating from Nihon University College of Art in 2002, she has participated in the Vendôme Photography Festival (France); the 59th Venice International Film Festival (Italy); and the Bilbao International Festival of Documentary and Short Films (Spain), and was granted honorable mention for three consecutive years (2009-2011) by the International Photography Awards (Los Angeles, CA). In 2010 she was selected as one of the 10 most up-and-coming Japanese artists by photographic magazine PHaTPHOTO.
Haruna Kawanishi is represented in Japan, where she currently resides, by Gallery 21.
